Pit Riewer at Reuter Bausch
For Pit Riewer, painting translates the cold gaze of the thermal camera into a sensitive visual language: he diverts the chromatic scale of hot and cold zones to explore how heat, condensation, or smoke shape human presence. The added value of this medium lies in making intensities visible rather than contours, turning color into a measure that is as emotional as it is physical.
“Figures, objects, and scenes slowly emerge, intertwined with their backgrounds, from the pseudo-chromatic scale of the thermal camera that I use for my shots.”
His diluted silhouettes—arms, torsos, car bodies, or interiors whose warmth spreads in atmospheric halos of color—form a body of work that is both clinical and romantic, questioning how proximity, contact, and speed are measured at a time when even the temperature of our bodies has become technical data.
“His work focuses on moments that explore real or imagined spaces through familiar, often ordinary elements.”
