Minh Phương Nguyễn (*1999 in Bitburg, DE) lives and works in Vienna, Austria.
In her artistic practice, Nguyễn explores ancestral traditions, material culture and post-migrant identity. Her works move between painting, installation and drawing.
At the center of her interest are questions of origin, spirituality and the location of the self in a present marked by historical ruptures and transcultural narratives. Utopian and dystopian perspectives permeate her work process and open up critical reflections on social transformation processes. Her work is also characterized by an examination of memory and the idea of simulation. Nguyễn uses various practices to create multi-layered visual and experiential spaces that make conditions visible. Places and situations of fragility and resonance emerge in which past, present and future overlap.
Minh Phương Nguyễn is currently studying at the Academy of Fine Arts in Vienna and at Kunsthochschule Mainz. She received the Deutschlandstipendium in 2021 and has been a scholarship holder of the Studienstiftung des deutschen Volkes since 2022
