Moritz Ney was born in 1947 in Pétange, Luxembourg.
After dropping out of school, Moritz Ney joined the Luxembourg army as a volunteer. This was followed by a short career in customs administration.
In 1967, he decided to devote his life to artistic creation. After his first contact with the art world in the studio of Luxembourg sculptor Aurelio Sabbatini in 1968, he enrolled in the Staatliche Werkkunstschule in Trier, Germany, to study sculpture and drawing. After the school closed in the same year, Moritz Ney worked together with the painter, ceramist and sculptor Albrecht Klauer-Simonis in Höhr-Grenzhausen, Germany. During this time he was able to prepare a portfolio that enabled him to be admitted to the Akademie der Bildenden Künste in Karlsruhe, Germany. From 1969 to 1972, he studied painting with Professors Herbert Kitzel and Horst Egon Kalinovski, and sculpture with Professor Hans Kindermann.
After Moritz Ney finished his studies in Germany, he moved to Bruxelles-Ixelles, Belgium, where he lived and worked as an artist from 1972–1980. In 1980, he returned to his homeland and established himself as an artist.
Since 2019, he has lived and worked in Luxembourg and Belgium
