The Third Day
Arny Schmit & Valentin van der Meulen
On the third day, according to the Genesis narrative, the earth rises from the waters and nature begins to take shape: grasses, trees, seeds, vegetation emerges, marking a first gesture in the organization of life. This moment of emergence, between chaos and harmony, inspires this exhibition, which brings together two artists whose work explores, each in their own way, the forces of nature.
Arny Schmit, known for his artistic practice, presents here a new series of paintings centered on plants, trees, and dense vegetation. Through an intuitive approach to painting, sensitive to matter and light, he captures the vital momentum of natural forms, their silent yet vibrant presence.
Valentin van der Meulen continues his exploration of drawing, appearance, and erasure. His vegetal landscapes seem to float in a fragile in-between, as if suspended in the breath of time. This blurriness, this tension between what is and what is fading, gives his works a meditative depth.
The Third Day is a tribute to that foundational moment when nature becomes visible, when the world begins to organize itself around life. By placing vegetation at the heart of their research, Schmit and van der Meulen offer a poetic reflection on the origin, perception, and memory of natural forms
