LETIZIA ROMANINI | RUST REGROWTH
Drawing on the mining basin of southern Luxembourg, this photographic series unfolds a situated perspective in which industrial memory, deep temporalities, and processes of regeneration overlap. Through a body of images dedicated to ruderal plants—often dismissed as “weeds”—the work functions as a sensitive survey of the forms of life that emerge within landscapes transformed by extraction.
The large-format prints, which bring together vegetal and mineral elements, use scale as a means of shifting perception. By reversing conventional relationships of scale, they invite a slower mode of attention and a deeper sensory immersion. This change in focus opens a critical space in which relationships between humans and environments can be reimagined beyond a strictly anthropocentric viewpoint.
Echoing the ideas of Donna Haraway, the project approaches the body as a porous entity, inseparable from its surroundings. The series thus proposes a reading grounded in interdependence, where the landscape is no longer understood as a backdrop but as a relational system shaped by often-overlooked forms of resilience.
At the intersection of archive, inventory, and speculation, Rust Regrowth outlines the contours of a situated ecology, attentive to the persistence of living systems within territories marked by industrial history.
